Maternal & Newborn Center

West Shore Medical Center has expanded its capabilities by moving the Maternal and Newborn Center to the third floor of the hospital. Adjacent to the surgical unit, this provides quicker access for Caesarean sections and other urgent surgeries. The redesigned unit has additional space for enhanced care of routine and unexpected birthing situations.
The eight-bed Maternal and Newborn Center includes three labor, delivery, recovery, and post-partum (LDRP) suites for a home-like birthing experience. The unit also includes private post-partum rooms.
All rooms in West Shore’s Maternal and Newborn Center feature private bathing facilities, with whirlpool tubs in LDRP suites to provide comfort and convenience. All of the new rooms are larger and provide space for family and visitors. The unit also features other amenities for families, including a viewing nursery from the corridor, kitchenette, and enhanced security measures.
The team staffing the unit includes highly specialized nurses, three obstetricians/gynecologists, and two pediatricians. Prenatal classes and breastfeeding education are also offered routinely by certified educators.
